  • Over & Under Parenting

    Guest post by Jenna
I struggle with feeling condemned.  I worry about how I look to other people.  I compare too much.  Keep reading if you've ever felt this way. (…)

  • Welcome Spring, I hope you die.

    Guest post by Jenna
If you live in Texas, you know exactly what I'm talking about.  I can't speak for anyone else's weather conditions, because truthfully I can't complain about the weather in Texas.  My kids are able to play outside for about 10 months out of the year.  The other 2 months it's too cold and wet.  (Ahem, when it reaches 30 degrees, but since none of us Texans invest in true waterproof winter jackets or snow boots - they don't sell them here!, we don't really have the ability to go outside without freezing our buns off.) The hotter the better for me - I love being outside in the 100 degree (F) heat of the Summer.  Seriously.  I'll take it over -50 (F) or whatever it is you people on the East coast have had this winter.  *shivers*
So, what is it that I dread the most?  Seasonal allergies.  Yep, all those commercials you see about all those different allergy medicines to try?  [Or do they only show those in Texas?]  I am a walking billboard for those medications.  I'm actually allergic to most allergy medications, ironically. • How did I get here? A quiz!

    Guest post by Jenna
Do you ever wonder in parenting, "How did I get here?"  [Not How you got to be a parent, we all know THAT part.]
There are times in parenting, good or bad, when your life goes on and you suddenly realize:
    A.  I'm really enjoying this!  The next stage must be even better! (…)

  • It's in the couch cushions.

    Guest post by Jenna
I have decided that whatever we’re looking for around the house is… in the couch cushions.  Somewhere deep within my couch, there is a greedy monster that likes to play hide-and-seek with whatever it is I’m looking for. (…)

  • Segues

    Guest post by Jenna
My kids are the king and queen of effortless and seemingly random segues in conversations.  [No, not the things you ride around on.  It would seem I'm pretty good with dictionary.com - "segues":  any smooth, uninterrupted transition from one thing to another.]
    This morning:
    My 2 year-old daughter K:  What's that on your bed, Mama? (…)

  • Monosyllabic

    Guest post by Jenna
It just dawned on me the other day how much dumber I have become since being a mom.  Don't get me wrong - I can quote you the names of the best baby foods, the prices on diapers each week, and the pros of breastfeeding past one year of age, all without breaking a sweat or taking a breath.  [inhale!]  But, I cannot manage to remember all those wonderful words I used to know.  I know there's a song about that.. • Shortcomings

    Guest post by Jenna
Ever wonder why words mean the things they do?  Why do seemingly inconspicuous words, put together mean something completely different?  [A random, though not completely tangent thought, is SpongeBob Square Pants.  Apart, they are four random nouns.  Put together they make a cartoon character.]  Ever thought about the word "shortcomings"?  Let's take it apart:
Dictionary.com defines the noun "short":  having little height, not tall; having little length, not long.  [Seems harmless right?]
And the same website defines the noun "comings":  approach; arrival; advent.  [Also not so harmful.]
But then you put the two words together…  "shortcomings":  a failure, defect, or deficiency in conduct, condition, thought, ability, etc. (…)

  • Why

    Guest post by Jenna
"Why are you here?"   It was the first question I was asked when I jogged up the stairs to Bible study this Sunday.  It wasn't supposed to make me feel like I didn't belong there or even question that I was in the wrong room.  It was for me to know why I showed up every week.  Was it the fellowship I enjoyed?  The food?  Why did I bust my buttocks doing homework for this study every night?, since I swore off homework the moment I graduated from college, possibly before. (…)

  • Stay at home Dad

    Guest post by Derek Cromwell
Hello.  You're probably wondering who I am.  Judging by the sudden stop in your scrolling you've likely stumbling across me by accident, more than likely while searching for something else.  I understand.  I'm slightly unpopular and most certainly uncool.  That's because I'm a stay-at-home Dad. • Diaper That Baby With A Little Less Moolah

Last week when Megan so graciously allowed me to fill her in her comfy, cozy Monday spot here, I talked about how much I learn from my children daily.  Many of the things I've learned since becoming a parent lay in the realm of the abstract - piercing joy, unspeakable devotion, life-changing love .
