She insists on hanging the breakables.
He insists on climbing the ladder.
We spend the afternoon listening to carols, spotting and supervising and holding our breath.
And in the end, the tree is beautiful.
The ornaments are whole.
The boy is safe.
We sit in the glow and count our blessings.
