Your Inner Child

By Mary

Yesterday while reading the blogs of friends, I came across this lovely post by Journey Mama, Something I Know Is True.  If you haven't read it yet, do, OK?  Often in the midst of my busy list-filled day, I forget the playful side of myself, the little girl. The one who wants to laugh and create and enjoy life.

As Journey Mama points out, that playful child is still somewhere in there.  Sure, life demands that things get done.  But fitting in the tiny moments of creativity not only nurtures our own souls, it sets a wonderful example for our children. How do you let that child out?

For me, it can be playing Phase Ten or Bananagrams with my kids, or cranking up the music and spinning around the living room with my girls, or arranging a vase of garden flowers, or taking a picture of the sunset, or cutting the dinner veggies ‘fancy’, or even lying in a patch of sun in the living room for ten minutes.

What does the child in you like to do?

Mary Ostyn blogs at  Owlhavenand is the mother of ten children.  She is the author of Family Feasts for $75 a WeekA Sane Woman's Guide to Raising a Large Family.

I like to crank up the music when I am in the car and sing to the song. I love to dance with my daughter. Even if it's just being creative scrapbooking with my son. I forget to do things for me. I am so focused on my kids. I have to let that inner child out more.
