Reflections of a young mother

By Cassie

I was sitting in the lawyer’s office patiently waiting for them to call my name.  Kindly flipping through a magazine and eyeing all of the little plaques and pictures on the walls.  Right at that moment it hit me. How did I get here?

How did I go from that girl who was at every party.  That girl that had friends and few cares.  That girl who worried about nothing and drank like it was my job.  To here.  Sitting in a lawyer’s office preparing to madly fight my “baby’s daddy” for help.

I almost lost it right there.  I would not trade Aiden for the world.  He lights up my life every day that he is in it.  Quite frankly though I wonder what I was thinking as I fell for his father.  Where I thought I would end up with him.

All the traits that once made me googly eyed over him now make me sick.  He was free.  He did what he wanted and answered to no one.  He listened to no one.  He lived his life and if someone didn’t like it, well, not his problem.  That drove me crazy. (In a good way). Now, it MAKES me crazy.

I think the difference is that I have changed and he has not.  I am not sure that he ever will.

I don’t know the right thing to say but that I do hope it only gets better each day for both you and Aiden.

  2. Not all men are that way–don’t give up on them all. I hope that you and Aiden have better days ahead.

Would rather read posts about parenting, not regrets about relationship mistakes.

wow…that’s kinda rude Karen. A huge part of parenting is realizing mistakes and working them through. Not all moms are in happy marriages…. You will have many moments that other people will have no interest in and I hope that they don’t tell you. I would hope they would not go out of their way to comment on just how uninterested they are in your situation.

For the “letter to the editor,” can one send his/her blog post to the editor. The instructions say: “Letters to the editor should only be sent to The Times, and not to other publications. We do not publish open letters or third-party letters.”. . Does that mean blog posts, too?. . Thanks a lot..
