Fashion sense?
By Cassie
I became a Godmother this week. It was a beautiful baptism and a lovely after party. We were getting ready to eat supper when an older relative approached me.
“I love your hair,” She said.
“and your dress, you look great.”
I was flattered. It's rare that I get compliments on my fashion sense. So I was really excited.
“You look ten years younger.”
Now mind you this would be a compliment for most. This was an older lady so I had to let it go. I am twenty one years old. If I am appearing ten years younger…well…I am eleven! I wasn’t sure whether to take it as a compliment or not. I took it.
I was thrown into motherhood quite young. In high-school I was fashionable. I knew how to dress and do my hair. I was able to put my make up on just right. However, somewhere in the nine months of pregnancy I lost all sense of that. I will admit here and now that I gained seventy-three pounds during my pregnancy. Needless to say… I was BIG. So yes, during my pregnancy it was hard to be fashionable.
After Aiden, still today I find myself struggling to understand fashion. I realize that somedays I leave my house appearing to be twice my age. My friends find it quite amusing to watch me try and piece an outfit together and make a connection between fashionable and reasonable. I had a baby. I cannot wear low-rise jeans and belly tops.
Well, I could… but lets face it… no one needs to see that.

I think that when we become moms our priorities shift so much that being fashionable often falls off the bottom. I wouldn't worry about it too much… I'm sure you look beautiful to everyone, and I'm especially positive that you look especially beautiful to your little one.

Yes our priorities do shift but I am firm believer we should put ourselves to the top of the list sometimes. I make sure I am taking care of as well because I have realized the hard way I am not a good mom if I am not healthy, happy, and even feel good about myself even if it is just putting on a little make-up.

Candace, you are right. I also have experienced the cons of not having myself on my priority list… it's something I'm trying to work on.
Thanks for the reminder.
